Hi cutie :)
Megan here, writing to you in the last days of 2024 from one of the few coffeeshops in Austin to survive inundation by Teslas in the parking lot and monochrome-lycra-wearing cyclists click-clacking their way to the barista with their helmets still on. Nay! Here there’s a table—complete with upside down typewriter, lamp, and coffee cup—hanging from the ceiling and doodles/profanities littering every inch of the bathroom wall. Art is alive, my friends!
In celebration of the alive-ness of art and the new-ness of the year, we at the ephemeral collective have some announcements for you. Our first issue, What are the Odds? (still available for purchase here, and in stores across the Plateau), came out in September and featured the work of seventeen incredible writers and artists. You all have been so wonderful in showing your support, building the stoke, and spreading the word. THANK YOU!
Like summer-loving adults with downhill skis on for the first time, we learned a thing or two in that first run. Soon, we’ll be showing off lessons learned alongside a whole new round of contributors in issue 2! It’s not too late to join that cohort of creatives, but more on that a little later…
First things first: we keep saying we’re “not just a magazine, we’re a collective" — it’s about time you get in on it!
Mark your calendars: ephemeral collective open meeting!
January 14 | 6:30pm | Grand County Public Library
That’s right — we’re doin’ what collectives do and inviting you all to join us for an evening of brainstorming, daydreaming, mood board making, and scheming. ephemeral is by and for the creative communities that bring the Colorado Plateau to life and thus, ephemeral itself can only be brought to life through committed community collaboration. Meet us at the Grand County Library on Jan. 14 to set some 2025 resolutions with us, and help us figure out all the different wonderful things this collective could be this year!
For those unable to join in person, join us via zoom! Click the calendar link above or send us an email and we will respond with the zoom link.
Reminder: Issue 2 pitches due in less than two weeks!
It’s not too late to submit your pitches for Issue 2: Vessel, but it will be soon. Click here to check out the submission guidelines and remember: you only need to submit an idea! Email us your pitch by Monday, January 13; we’ll get our responses out in the week following. Full submissions for accepted pitches will be due in mid February.
That’s all for now! Your regularly scheduled ephemerally curated newsletter will be back in February. In the spirit of those cheeky professors during syllabus week and in an effort to refresh my quarterly music lull, I humbly request readers who make it this far to prove you read this by responding with the first song you listened to in 2025. My ears are hungry! Feed them! <3
